Why do I want to feature an inspirational person in my newsletter?
I want to feature people like Trish who have crossed my path and touched my life, inspiring me toward greatness. Too many of us fail to see greatness in ourselves. Somehow, it doesn’t seem to matter what we have achieved; we often need others to point out to us how we excel. People display “greatness” by their attitude, their lifestyle, their choices, their actions… I want to recognize the people in my life who lead by example.
Meet Trish Smith
I met Trish Smith at a Bootcamp class I taught at VIU a fews year ago. She keep amazing me; she is so high energy, positive and always ready for a challenge. She keep doing lots of crazy races and push her limit. I am so happy to feature her as an fitness inspiration.
What motivate you to exercise?
I am motivated to exercise because I feel less guilty about drinking wine when I get home if I’ve worked out that day! I am also amazed by how my body transformed after attending various bootcamps and HIIT classes over the last two years and I don’t want to lose that!
What activity/workout do you prefer?
My favourite type of workout is the ‘bootcamp style’ that combines cardio and resistance training, where each class offers different activities but gives me a total body workout. I get bored easily so I like the variety of doing stairs combined with resistance training on one day, then going to the track to combine runs with a TRX workout another day.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is raising two beautiful children and I’m happy that I’m now fit enough that I can keep up with them! Two weeks ago I visited my daughter in Toronto and took an Army of Sass class she was teaching and then went out dancing until 2 am! If I wasn’t in shape I never could have shared this experience with her. Last year my teenage son and I competed in the Spartan Sprint, which was a 5K sprint up Mt. Seymour. He keeps to himself a lot and doesn’t share much, so it was wonderful to have this shared experience.
What is you superpower?
I can talk to animals, or at least my two cats. They understand everything I’m saying and respond when I want them to. When I say ‘dinner’, they come. When I say ‘snack time’, they come. When I ask them if they want to go for a walk, they follow me around the neighbourhood!
What is your favorite dish/recipe?
My favourite types of food are sushi and creole dishes. I also love salads. I have at least one per day and always include a whole avocado! They never last until the next day, so why leave half?
What is your cheat treat?
My vices are cheese and chocolate covered almonds. I eat cheese regularly, even though I know it’s not great for me, but that’s why I workout, so I can indulge in cheese and wine after work!
What are your goal and dreams?
My goal is to continue to stay fit and healthy and participate in at least one challenging activity per year that gives me a reason to keep working out. I want to be able to stay active and keep up with my kids, whether it’s skiing, dancing or running The Amazing Race. Hopefully staying active also motivates my children to maintain an active lifestyle. If their 50-year old mom can do it, then they can!
Advice for a newbie?
When I think back 2 1/2 years to when I started attending Vero’s bootcamp classes, I remember being very sore! I would hop out of bed in the morning and limp to the bathroom. This went on for a while, but eventually it did go away. The intermittent soreness became a gentle reminder that I worked out some muscles that I hadn’t used in a while. But the ‘pain’ goes away. Stick with it. It will get better and you’ll be amazed by the results!
Testimonial from Trish: “Véronique is a great role model and an incredible motivator! I really look forward to her Bootcamp classes! I have seen huge improvements in my fitness level and have lost weight to boot!”
